Fetal and Infant Mortality Review (FIMR) is a process of identifying and studying factors that contribute to fetal and infant deaths. Through examination of health records and interviews with families who have experienced the death of a fetus or an infant, FIMR identifies areas for improvement in service systems and community resources and provides recommendations for new policies to safeguard women, children and families.
FIMR uses a community-based approach by bringing together local health providers, consumers, advocates and leaders. Muskegon County FIMR is modeled after the national FIMR program, which is two-tiered, consisting of a Case Review Team and a Community Action Team.
The Case Review Team (CRT) is composed of human service agencies, health care providers and other experts that review case information and interviews. They identify issues, look at trends, and make recommendations to the Community Action Team (CAT) for community change.
The Community Action Team (CAT) is composed of community leaders, advocates, and consumers who receive the recommendations of the Case Review Team (CRT). They prioritize issues and design and implement interventions to improve services systems and community resources.
