The City of Muskegon uses a flag system at Pere Marquette beach to indicate current swimming conditions. While the red flag (dangerous swimming) is also posted after lifeguard duty hours, these flags are posted as follows:

Green: Current weather conditions indicate that swimming at the beach is relatively safe.	Yellow: Current weather conditions indicated that swimming at the beach could be hazardous. Proceed with caution.	Red: Current weather conditions indicate that swimming at the beach is hazardous. Do not enter the water.
