Water Safety - Flag System

 

Pere Marquette beach and park is one of the few public beaches in Muskegon County that is guarded during the summer months.Call (231) 755-2914 for current swimming conditions at Pere Marquette. (This information line is updated daily at approximately 10:30 am.) Remember, beach conditions can change very quickly on Lake Michigan. Stay alert!

 

The City of Muskegon uses a flag system at Pere Marquette beach to indicate current swimming conditions. While the red flag (dangerous swimming) is also posted after lifeguard duty hours, these flags are posted as follows:

Green: Current weather conditions indicate that swimming at the beach is relatively safe.
Yellow: Current weather conditions indicated that swimming at the beach could be hazardous. Proceed with caution.
Red: Current weather conditions indicate that swimming at the beach is hazardous. Do not enter the water.
