Health Promotion

Health promotion is the process through which a community is empowered to take charge of their health. This includes the availability and ability to make healthy lifestyle choices. Health promotion includes assessment, education, policy development, environmental measures and advocacy.

Our Mission

To create an environment for healthy people to live in a healthy community. We do this through education and promotion of healthy behavioral changes based upon community needs and readiness.

Our Challenge

The challenge of health promotion is to weave health promotion into the fiber of the community, to collaborate with other leading community motivators and achieve mutual desired results. We contribute to neighborhood, community and county vitality and stability through these collaborative efforts. Through promotion of proven effective health initiatives we find health behavior changes that benefit the entire population.

Why?

Health promotion is required by Michigan's Public Health Code..."to prevent disease, prolong life, and promote the public health through organized activities." Health promotion is the process through which a community is empowered to take charge of its health, including availability of healthy lifestyle choices. Health promotion includes assessment, education, policy development, environmental measures and advocacy.
