The Healthy Michigan Plan started enrollment April 1, 2014. Available through the state of Michigan, the Healthy Michigan Plan covers those who make up to 133 percent of the federal poverty level. That works out to roughly $16,000 a year for one person or $33,000 for a family of four. The Healthy Michigan Plan covers everything from doctor visits to hospitalizations to prescriptions at a low cost. To apply, there are three options for Michigan residents:

The Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment closed March 31, 2014 and will re-open enrollment November 15, 2014 – February 15, 2015. If you have a qualifying event, such as loss of other health coverage, birth or adoption of a child, or marriage, you could qualify for a special enrollment period. For questions related to the Health Insurance Marketplace (such as special enrollment periods or extensions of open enrollment for those who tried to enroll before March 31, 2014 but had technical difficulties) call 1-800-318-2596.
